The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Follows Poor Response

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a distinct vision.

Ismailer stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Key Hires

This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a sharper identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our audience.

The belief in this project grows every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the time to ahead.

The President

Background of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman currently holds the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a early access event. Initially, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and challenges that change every round. Do you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, risk it all, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an official launch window or platforms, but players can expect additional details as production progresses.
